The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center reports that January 2025 will be warmer than the average long-term indicators. According to the forecast, the average monthly temperature in most regions will be from 0° to -3° below zero, and in the south and Transcarpathia it will even reach +2°.
According to weather forecasters, such temperature indicators exceed the climatic norm by 1.5-2°C. The highest temperatures are expected in Odessa, Kherson regions, Crimea, and Transcarpathia.
As for precipitation, its amount will vary from 32 to 79 mm, which corresponds to multi-year norms for this period.
The weather will remain stable until the end of 2024. According to forecaster Natalia Ptukha, the main weather events are expected on the eve of the holidays:
- December 25 : wet snow is possible in the western and northern regions, moderate snow in the Carpathians, and rain in the south.
- December 26 : Precipitation will cease in the western and northern regions, but will linger in the central, eastern, and southern regions.
- December 27-28 : the influence of the anticyclone will provide dry weather with clearings, which will contribute to a decrease in night temperatures.
Experts attribute the unusually warm winter to global climate change, which has been increasingly affecting Ukraine's weather in recent years. The absence of severe frosts may contribute to a more comfortable winter season, but this trend raises concerns about the long-term environmental consequences.
