On February 10, the Orthodox believers remember the Reverend Prokhor, the Wonderworker of the Kiev-Pechersk, and also honor the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Fire" under the new church calendar. This day is called the spring Prokhor, because it is associated with folk signs about the beginning of spring.
A church holiday in a new style
On this day, the Orthodox mention the Prokhora of the Lebidnik, the monk of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery of the XI-XII centuries. He was called a winch because he was preparing bread from Loboda. Legends indicate that thanks to the blessing of Prokhor, bitter bread became sweet, and the ashes could turn into salt.
Prokhor is known for his modesty, piety and help, and after his death was enrolled in the saints.
The icon of the Mother of God is “fire -shaped”
The history of this icon, which appeared in 598, remains a mystery. Its feature is the red color of the Virgin's clothing, symbolizing the blood of Christ. The image is considered miraculous - he is addressed with prayers for healing, protection against disasters and peace.
