Today in the USA, the authorities exposed the attempt of Russian President Vladimir Putin to disrupt the International Peace Summit due to his statements about the possibility of peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine. This attempt, as reported by a source from the American administration, took place in the context of preparation for an important international event held in Switzerland.
This is stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War indicate that Putin spoke before the Peace Summit to disrupt the international meeting.
"Putin specifically outlined his demands for 'peaceful' talks in Ukraine a day before the start of the Global Peace Summit to undermine Western support for Ukraine's legitimate claims to Russia," the ISW report said.
According to their analysis, the Russian dictator partially succeeded, because some countries, instead of acting within the framework of the Peace Summit to increase aid to Ukraine to end the war, began to actively talk about the absence of Russia.
Putin's attempts to derail the Peace Summit have been recognized by several Western officials. US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the Russian dictator's statements were not a call for peace talks, but only demanded "the surrender of Ukraine."
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz explained that despite Putin's statement, Russia itself rejects all collective international proposals to end the war in Ukraine. In addition, the US representative to the UN, Robert Wood, pointed out that Russia specifically convened a meeting of the UN Security Council a day before the Peace Summit.
According to him, this was Putin's attempt to divert the attention of the international community from the summit and from Russia's war in Ukraine.
