Ukraine is negotiating with its international partners about a possible lowering of the mobilization age, but this issue does not cause tension or disagreement. As stated by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhyi, the main focus is on providing already mobilized servicemen with the necessary weapons and equipment, and not on additional mobilization.
Heorhiy Tykhyi confirmed that the issue of lowering the mobilization age is being discussed within the framework of general negotiations with international partners, in particular with the US and EU countries. At the same time, he emphasized:
“This is not a critical or tense issue. We are initiating this discussion, informing partners about the dynamics of mobilization and the size of the army, but this is just one of many topics along with sanctions, defense strategies, and deterrence of the aggressor.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that the main challenge remains providing the army with modern equipment. According to him:
“We lack sufficient weapons and equipment for those already mobilized. There is a need to accelerate the delivery of the announced aid.”
Ukraine does not consider the increase in the number of mobilized troops to be the main problem. Instead, the priority is to effectively equip existing forces.
Discussion of a possible reduction in the mobilization age to 18 has caused some resonance, but Ukrainian diplomats assure that this issue does not cause conflicts with partners. The main thing remains coordination with the international community for the faster supply of necessary resources.
