By the end of February, the Verkhovna Rada intends to consider in the first reading the draft law, which concerns migration issues and procedures for acquiring and losing Ukrainian citizenship . This draft law was introduced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
"The multi-citizenship initiative proposed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, is important," he emphasized.
Kornienko noted that Ukrainian parliamentarians and the government have always worked to ensure that Ukrainians around the world, regardless of their citizenship in the countries of residence, could feel like full-fledged citizens of Ukraine, participate in the life of the country, realize themselves here, invest in the state and have certain electoral rights.
He also explained that the draft law proposes to define a list of states whose citizens will be able to obtain Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified manner. Among these states there are more than 30 countries, including the countries of the European Union, the United States of America, Canada, Great Britain and Japan.
"We are all working to ensure that our large Ukrainian family has the same rights all over the world... We plan to vote for this draft law in the first reading by the end of February," Kornienko added.
