People's Deputy of Ukraine Maryana Bezugla confirmed the information that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is cautious in adopting the draft law on banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) due to possible negative consequences for international relations, in particular fear of the reaction of the USA.
"There are thousands of denominations in the US, from the mainstream to the most exotic and downright threatening, and this topic fits well, especially in a Republican environment. We have signals that sanctions, etc., will be imposed on people's deputies who voted. Currently, each hryvnia mainly consists of the money of partners, and a huge part of it is the funds of the United States, so taking a stand during the stormy times of their elections is dangerous not only for the concept of bipartisan support, but also for any support in general," Bezugla said.
According to her, a Ukrainian delegation is leaving for the United States next week "to settle the issue."
Also, the "problems" with the draft law, according to the deputy, arose because of the position of the Vatican.
"We also have problems with the draft law in the Vatican: they express reservations there," writes Bezugla.
We will remind you that on Tuesday, the said bill was refused to be brought to the hall, which caused Poroshenko's party to block the tribune.
