The Council adopted a draft law on the voluntary abandonment of military units and desertion during the war

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the draft law concerning the voluntary abandonment of military units and desertion during martial law. This bill aims to amend current legislation to reduce the negative consequences for military personnel returning to service.

It is proposed to establish that during martial law:

- military service and the validity of the contract continue for servicemen who voluntarily left military units for the first time and voluntarily arrived at the place of service. Payments and implementation of food, material support, benefits and guarantees are also renewed;

- initiated criminal proceedings against servicemen who voluntarily left military units for the first time and voluntarily arrived are not grounds for refusing to continue military service and the validity of their contract.
