Ukrainian rapper Potap, who has moved abroad and now performs under the pseudonym Slavic Balagan, made an unexpected statement. He said on his Instagram that he would like to represent Moldova at Eurovision 2025, although the country will not participate in the contest this year.
The artist published a video dialogue with an unknown woman, during which he talked about his idea. Potap emphasized that he was even ready to finance his participation on his own and was convinced that the Moldovan public would support him.
“I want to tell you honestly, considering that my main lineup is guys from Moldova, if there was such an opportunity, I would be happy to represent Moldova at Eurovision,” the artist said
Moreover, he assured that he already had a suitable song with Moldovan motifs that would be ideal for the international stage.
Despite the rapper's wishes, Moldova officially refused to participate in Eurovision 2025. The main reasons were economic difficulties and low interest in the contest in the country.
“We could represent Moldova at Eurovision if, of course, the people supported us. And I think they would,” Potap added
The rapper is increasingly moving away from Ukraine
Potap left Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion and has only visited his homeland a few times since then. In recent years, he has been building a career abroad, working on a new stage image, Slavic Balagan.
Interestingly, he mentions the war less and less, and his performances are mostly in Russian. This causes a lot of indignation among Ukrainian listeners, who believe that the artist has finally chosen the path of distancing himself from Ukraine.
