House No. 429 on Tsentralnaya Street in Borodyanka became one of the most painful symbols of the destruction caused by Russian aviation in March 2022. Two air bombs destroyed part of the high-rise building, taking lives and leaving residents homeless. However, the path from tragedy to restoration stretched for many years due to bureaucratic obstacles, political conflicts, and suspicious bidding games.
Only in June 2025 did the authorities announce a new tender for the reconstruction of the building, which had been neglected for years. Residents have repeatedly stressed that investigations and lawsuits have blocked any progress, and the building itself has become an arena for corruption schemes.
The first tender for the restoration was won by a company with a Russian footprint, which caused a wave of indignation. It was canceled only after the intervention of the court. In total, attempts were made to order reconstruction projects eight times, but they never resulted in real work. At the same time, an advance payment of UAH 1.16 million was received by LLC “BK Ukrbudmontazh-2014” for the dismantling of the destroyed parts, but residents claim that for a long time no work was actually carried out.
The new tender in 2025 was won by the company “Trust KMB-3”, which offered to restore the house for 365 million UAH — 10 million less than other participants. The project plans to restore the housing within the framework of technical standards. However, local residents express distrust: they fear that some of the work will be carried out formally, and the procurement of materials and contract agreements will remain opaque.
The residents of the building, who survived the occupation, shelling and looting, demand transparency from the authorities at every stage of the reconstruction. Their main demand is control over the use of budget funds, tender documentation and actual performance of work. For them, building No. 429 is not only housing, but also a symbol of the struggle for justice, transparency and the restoration of life destroyed by the war.
