Since the beginning of 2025, almost 1,200 cases of measles have been recorded in Ukraine, of which about 900 are among children. This was reported by the Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin. For comparison: for the whole of 2024 there were only 70 cases.
Why is the situation critical?
-
The vaccination rate for measles, mumps, and rubella is only 44%.
-
The worst indicators are in Kyiv, Odessa, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
-
According to Cousin, measles is an extremely contagious infection that can cause serious complications, especially among children.
The WHO recommends at least 95% vaccination coverage to prevent outbreaks. In Ukraine, this figure has fluctuated between 85–88% in recent years, but has now fallen to a record low of 44%.
The Ministry of Health urges parents to vaccinate their children on time, and adults to make up for missed doses. This is the only reliable protection against the disease.
