At the beginning of 2024, a group of raiders tried to involve a high-ranking official of the Security Service of Ukraine in a scheme to raid a mining company in Vinnytsia. In response to a $1 million bribe offer, the colonel immediately reported the attempted bribery to management. All participants of the criminal scheme were detained.
After the arrest, the leader of the raider group was in a pre-trial detention center, where he decided to eliminate an important witness to avoid punishment. He turned to other arrested persons who had connections with people at large and offered 50,000 dollars for the murder of a witness. The organizer provided detailed information about the victim, including his address and travel routes.
SBU employees quickly discovered the criminal's plans, documenting the preparation for the murder. The security service successfully stopped the implementation of the crime at the stage of preparation and informed the organizer of a new suspicion under the articles of the Criminal Code, which provide punishment for preparation for contract murder.
Previously, the raider's activities were classified under the article on the offer of unlawful benefit, but now he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The SBU continues the investigation in the case in order to punish the organizers and participants of this criminal scheme as efficiently as possible.
