The repair of the fence of the Bajkovo Cemetery in Kiev is suspended. The reason was the lack of agreed scientific and projection documentation and public resonance on the preservation of cultural heritage. The Kyiv City State Administration initiated a check that showed that part of the historical brick fence was already dismantled.
What happened
In December 2024, the Ritual Service of the PCPP SKPP began overhauling the fence of the Baikovo Cemetery, implementing the project of anti -thepower. The tender was won by the company "Denko Construction Company", and the total amount of the contract was almost UAH 200 thousand.
After the repair began, the monument, Dmitry Perov registered a petition with a call to stop work and preserve the historic part of the fence. This caused considerable public resonance.
Why a conflict arose
The deputy chairman of the KSCA Petro Panteleyev explained that not the entire fence of the Bajkovo Cemetery is a monument of cultural heritage. Historical elements include:
- gate church,
- 12 sections of brick fence with metal lattice,
- Catholic and Lutheran gates.
According to Panteleyev, the works are aimed at preserving burials, not changing historical structures. At the same time, a review of the KSCA Cultural Heritage Department found that part of the brick fence had already been dismantled.
What happens next
The Department of Cultural Heritage Protection issued an order for suspension of works to obtain the relevant scientific and projection documentation. Also planned to involve experts for complex studies of all structural elements of the fence.
Specialists of the State Research Institute of Building Structures have established that the dismantled brick was made in the middle of the twentieth century. Due to its poor condition, experts do not recommend using it again.
Today, construction and dismantling work in the Baikovo Cemetery is completely stopped. It is still unknown whether repairs will be restored after the development of a new project documentation.
