The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a 32-year-old citizen in Khmelnytskyi who worked for Russian intelligence services and collected information about military facilities. According to investigators, he planned to provide coordinates of critical facilities for a terrorist attack.
A Russian agent was detained in Khmelnytskyi, who was preparing a terrorist attack near units of the Defense Forces on the orders of the Russian special services, the Security Service of Ukraine reported on Friday.
The Security Service has prevented a terrorist attack that Russian special services were preparing in Khmelnytskyi. As a result of the special operation, a Russian agent was detained who planned to plant explosives near Defense Forces bases in the city
According to the special services, the defendant received the relevant task remotely from his supervisor in the Russian Federation at the beginning of this year.
The enemy's priority targets, as reported by the SBU, were reserve command posts and locations of deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard.
The agent, according to the SBU, walked around the territory, recorded geolocations, and looked for places to plant explosives. After detecting the object, he analyzed the perimeter for the presence of “convenient” points for installing an improvised explosive device (IED). He then transmitted the coordinates to the curator from the Russian Federation for approval, awaiting instructions on manufacturing an IED with a remote activation mechanism via telephone, the special service indicated.
The SBU acted proactively and detained the agent during reconnaissance near a military facility where the occupiers were planning a terrorist attack.
A mobile phone with an anonymous chat, where he communicated with a Russian intelligence officer, was seized from him.
According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be a 32-year-old drug addict who came into the eyes of the occupiers while looking for a quick way to make money on Telegram for a "dose.".
He was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law), Part 3 of Article 114-2 (dissemination of information about the movement, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
