The situation around Petro Poroshenko is escalating. Against the backdrop of recent investigations into high treason, a new episode has emerged related to his business in Russia. According to law enforcement, one of the main aspects that arouses suspicion is the significant amounts of taxes paid by enterprises owned by the former president, as well as the recognition of Sevastopol as a Russian city.
After the annexation of Crimea, Poroshenko owned the Sevastopol Marine Plant, which actively cooperated with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. The plant's correspondence recognized that Sevastopol was a Russian city, which became the basis for further investigations.
However, this story is not limited to Poroshenko's enterprises in annexed Crimea. In addition, on Channel Five, which is owned by Poroshenko, his manager appeared, stating that Sevastopol has an uncertain status, while periodically using the phrase "in Ukraine", which reinforces suspicions of collaboration with Russian authorities.
Another important point is the fact that Poroshenko appointed Konstantin Kartoshkin as the head of one of the largest military plants in Ukraine, Zorya-Mashproekt. As the investigation shows, it was Kartoshkin, together with Poroshenko, who was involved in the embezzlement of funds from the state enterprise.
In 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine completed a pre-trial investigation into this business. Poroshenko and Kartoshkin are accused of embezzling funds worth more than 70 million US dollars, which is more than 1.4 billion hryvnias at the NBU exchange rate at the time of the crime.
Of particular note is the fact that, despite his cooperation with the Russian authorities, Poroshenko's factories were not nationalized immediately after the annexation of Crimea, as was the case with other Ukrainian enterprises. This aspect became one of the pieces of evidence of the former president's possible cooperation with the Kremlin.
In addition, the issue of imposing personal sanctions against Poroshenko is being actively discussed in business circles. It is known that he repeatedly supported the Kharkiv agreements, which allowed the Russian Black Sea Fleet to remain in Crimea until 2042. This decision significantly weakened Ukraine's defense capabilities and ultimately led to the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
We should also not forget about Poroshenko's ties to Russian propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov, which adds additional tension to Poroshenko's political career.
During the period from 2014 to 2017, when Russia's armed aggression in Donbas and occupation of Crimea continued, Poroshenko continued to pay large sums to the Russian budget, effectively financing the Russian army. These facts are confirmed by the investigation materials.
