The Chinese startup DEEPSEEEK, specializing in generative artificial intelligence, has recently gained very popularity, becoming a leader in the field of technology after launching its chatbot in January 2025. In just a few weeks, DEEPSEEK surpassed Chatgpt by the number of downloads in the United States, becoming the most popular free application at the iOS App Store.
However, according to Andrey Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Combating Misinformation in the NSDC of Ukraine, such success can hide serious risks to the safety of users. He notes that Chinese artificial intelligence collects huge amounts of personal data, including financial information, interests and even the emotional state of users. Since this AI "studies" its users, the question is where this data is and who controls them.
"Deeseek is a great tool for collecting intelligence," Kovalenko emphasizes, emphasizing the potential threats associated with the influence of such technologies. His statements are questioned by the intentions of a Chinese company that develops Deeseek and ask the ethics of using such tools to gather personal information.
According to official data, the Deeceek model was developed at a record low cost, which increases doubts about the accuracy of this data. In parallel with the fact that Deepeseek has achieved considerable success in America, against the background of news about this breakthrough of a stock of technological giants such as Nvidia and Oracle has fallen sharply. This is the question of the global competitiveness of Western technologies and opens new prospects for China in the world of innovation.
