In a recent interview, People's Deputy from the Holos faction and SBU Colonel Roman Kostenko shared important details about the Kursk operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The operation in the Kursk region was a significant event, but many unknowns remain around it. However, as Kostenko noted, it is part of larger plans by Ukraine that could have serious consequences for Russian defense.
Kostenko confirmed that Ukrainian troops conducted a raid on Russian territory, capturing more than 20 settlements, which they currently hold. This raid demonstrated the effectiveness of asymmetric actions in warfare. “The Kursk campaign is an example of asymmetric actions, where we were able to capture 350 square kilometers in one day. The Russians tried to do the same for months, but could not achieve such results, spending huge resources,” Kostenko noted.
Kostenko stressed that the successes in the Kursk region have a positive impact on the morale of the Ukrainian military. “The morale of the army was falling due to the lack of victories, but now we can see how the Ukrainian spirit is rising,” he said. The colonel also pointed to possible plans by Ukraine that may go beyond the Kursk region, but added that their implementation will depend on many factors, including the enemy’s capabilities and strategic reserves.
According to Kostenko, the raid came as a “complete surprise” to the Russians. It was noted that conscripts were on the border, which indicates the success of Ukraine’s surprise strike strategy. Russia will now have to reallocate its reserves, which could affect their ability to maintain defense on other important fronts.
The People's Deputy also noted that Ukraine is fighting with limited resources, and partners are providing only half of what is needed for full defense. Kostenko emphasized that the achievements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in destroying Russian resources and equipment are a significant success, despite the limitations.
The consequences of the raid in the Kursk region are felt at the front, and this puts Russia in a position to spend resources on defense. Kostenko noted that Ukrainian forces can monitor the situation and adapt their plans depending on changes on the front. At present, the situation remains tense, and the achievements of the Ukrainian military require careful analysis and further action.
