Romania to facilitate grain exports from Ukraine through construction of anchorage in the port of Constanta by March 2024
Director of the state shipping company "Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company" Dmytro Moskalenko announced that a new anchorage in the port of Constanta for Ukrainian agricultural products is planned to be put into operation in March next year. The agreement on this was reached at a meeting with Romanian partners dedicated to increasing the export capacity of Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
Moskalenko noted that discussions on the creation of anchorages with Romanian colleagues began in September. Although the opening of the Odessa ports reduced the flow of agricultural products through the Danube region, the issue of a "backup" export route remains relevant, and the Danube may again become a key route.
According to him, the Romanian side plans to hold a tender and develop a regulatory framework during January and February in order to launch the anchorage in March. An agreement has also been reached on an online queue for barge processing at the port of Constanta, which will facilitate the projected work.
Moskalenko emphasized that idle barges in Constanta lead to additional costs for cargo owners and critically reduce the efficiency of fleet use.
