The Russian occupying forces achieved a significant tactical success, entering the O-0532 road near Vugledar in Donetsk region. This operation was aimed at cutting one of the key Ukrainian land lines of communication connecting Vugledar with Kostyantynivka. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this move by Russia could have serious consequences for Ukraine's defense capabilities in the region.
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The enemy entered the O-0532 highway to cut the Ukrainian land line of communication connecting Vugledar and Kostyantynivka, which is near Donetsk.
ISW emphasizes that Russian sources have long considered blocking the highway and disrupting Ukrainian land lines of communication (GLOCs) in Vugledar as the main tactical objective southwest of Donetsk. Allegedly, this will allow the invaders to force Ukrainian forces to withdraw from their positions in and around Ugledar.
The report also notes that Russian forces have recently stepped up offensive operations southwest of Donetsk and conducted several expensive mechanized assaults in the area.
“The Russian advance towards the Vugledar-Kostyantynivka highway is likely a result of this increased offensive effort, but Russian advances southwest of Donetsk continue to be gradual. Ukrainian forces have other GLOCs leading to Vugledar, and the closure of the O-0532 highway does not significantly impair Ukraine's ability to maintain and supply positions in the Vugledar area," ISW emphasizes.
The occupiers advanced near Toretsk and continued offensive operations in this area on August 2.
