The Russian army intensified its offensive in the Vugledar area, trying to increase pressure on Ukrainian forces and achieve tactical advantages. These attacks are aimed at eliminating the SFU salient to the west and southwest of Donetsk and at attempting to control the H-15 route connecting Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
According to ISW analysts, the Russians are coordinating their assaults from the southern flank of the Pokrovsky direction and Vugledar to create additional pressure on Ukrainian defenders and facilitate further operations in the region. Although these offensive actions are of a local nature, they are aimed at consolidating the positions of the occupiers and preventing the transfer of Ukrainian reinforcements to other areas of the front.
Despite the escalation of fighting near Vugledar, other operations in the west of Donetsk region continue at the previous pace. In particular, the Ukrainian airborne brigade showed a video of the successful repulse of the Russian attack near Kostiantynivka, where the enemy used four tanks and 17 armored vehicles.
The Russian military plans to capture Vugledar and Kurakhove to gain control over key routes, but faces significant difficulties. The intense offensive in Donetsk region may reach a climax earlier than the Russian command anticipates, as their resources are depleted by the actions of Ukrainian forces not only in Donbas, but also in border regions such as Kursk region.
