On the night of May 1, Kyiv again became the target of the Russian attack by drones. This time, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the enemy used the delayed cassette ammunition, which may not be detonated not immediately, but in an hour, day or even more.
According to the spokesman of the KMVA Yevgeny Yivlev on the air of the Kyiv24 TV channel, during the attack of enemy drones scattered explosive objects in the capital, which pose a great threat to the civilian population. According to him, these shells can work under the influence of a variety of factors - light, vibration, heat, pressure or movement.
"It's a weapon against the civilian population, there is no doubt here," Yivlev said.
Due to the nature of the explosions and the destructive power of the shells, it is difficult to carry out accurate examination - after detonation only microscopic particles remain. According to Yivlev, new types of ammunition are likely to have a larger charge to destroy traces of their origin.
KMVA Chairman Timur Tkachenko reported that about ten explosions occurred in the forest park zone of Darnytskyi district, in particular in Bortnichi. One of the ammunition was detonated on the roof of an apartment building, damaging the roof. As a result, one person was injured. According to him, this is not the first time that drones are scattered with cassette ammunition in Kiev.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that access to a potentially dangerous territory in Darnytskyi district is now blocked, sappers work.
Yivlev warns residents: the danger of such ammunition is stored for a day and more. "Even if it seems that the object is inactive, it is strictly forbidden to approach it," the KMVA spokesman said.
Ukrainian experts urge residents of the capital to be extremely cautious, avoid unfamiliar objects on the streets and immediately report them to rescuers. In the case of suspicious objects, not to approach or touch.
