The tense military situation in the east of Ukraine, this time due to increasing Russian attacks on Ukrainian military airfields. The last episode was the arrival of the "Iskanders" at the "Myrgorod" airfield in the Poltava region, which caused significant destruction and losses.
Yesterday, the "Iskanders" arrived at the "Myrgorod" airfield in the Poltava region. Estimates of the losses differ - the Russian Federation claims to have destroyed and damaged seven Su-27s, but Ukrainian sources, although they confirm the losses, say that they are much lower.
But if you look at the reports of the Air Force for June, then attempts to attack this airfield were carried out almost every day. And even several times a day.
The airfield in Starokostyantinov, Khmelnytskyi region, is attacked less often - this is due to its distance from the Russian border and the impossibility of using the high-speed Iskander ballistic missile.
But Starokostyantinov is also beaten regularly. According to the monitoring public, there were three large missile and drone raids last month - on June 27, 14 and 7. Cruise missiles, Daggers, and Shaheds were used in a combined mode.
According to data as of the end of May, since August 2023, more than 60 cruise missiles, up to ten "Daggers" and more than 130 "Shakhed" were fired at the Starokostyantiniv airfield, almost all targets, except for the "Daggers", were shot down.
Attacks on the Khmelnytskyi airfield have sharply increased since August.
It should be noted that in August 2023, at the G7 summit, Biden approved the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Which, as stated, should start already this summer.
Yesterday, the Dutch government issued a permit to export 24 fighter jets to Ukraine. It is reported that the first of them will be "sent soon", no more precise terms have been given.
That is, the increasingly frequent Russian strikes on Myrhorod and Starokostyantynov are, obviously, practice of defeating F-16s at airfields when they arrive in Ukraine.
At the same time, it is known that the Russians also regularly attack two more large military airfields of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Dolgyntsevo near Kryvyi Rih and Kulbakin near Mykolaiv. But, judging by the monitoring public, this happens less often.
Given that these airfields are located approximately 50-70 kilometers from the front line, storing F-16s there is unlikely to be safe. And most likely, the Russian Federation does not consider these airfields as the main bases for US fighter jets.

"Myrgorod" is located 150 kilometers from the Russian border, which makes it also vulnerable to "Iskander", but the flight time will be clearly higher (in fact, the strike will be delivered from an even greater distance, since no one will bring the launcher directly to the border).
"Starokostyantiniv" is located 540 kilometers from the border with the Russian Federation. And it can become, given its remoteness, one of the main bases for the F-16. Although, as was written above, "Daggers" break through air defense around this airfield.
In connection with the threat of attacks on airfields, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already raised the question of placing the F-16s transferred to Ukraine at the airfields of NATO countries. But the Russian Federation said that in this case it would strike at them. After that, the White House said that these planes will be located only in Ukraine.
That is, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have to solve the issue of F-16 safety on the ground - either by strengthening air defense near their parking areas as much as possible, or by organizing underground hangars for the aircraft near the runways.
