Russia is considering the possibility of transferring its troops from Syria to the front in Ukraine. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCP) at the National Security Council, we are talking about several thousand servicemen who are currently stationed on Syrian territory.
The situation in Syria forced Russia to urgently withdraw a military contingent from bases in the country. These forces may end up at the front in Ukraine, but they will not significantly affect the general situation, said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
According to him, as of the summer of 2024, there were about 6,000-7,500 Russian military personnel in Syria, including representatives of private military companies.
"Accordingly, even in the case of the transfer of all these military personnel to the Russian Federation with subsequent deployment to the war against Ukraine, this will not significantly affect the situation at the front, given the rather high daily losses of the Russian army in assault operations. Moreover, some of these soldiers may be transferred to Africa," Kovalenko noted.
The situation in Syria is the main news
Yesterday, the command of the Syrian army informed the officers about the fall of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. Later, Russia announced that Assad had peacefully left the post of president and left Syria.
