Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, made a high-profile statement about the nature of the war being waged by Russia and possible strategies for ending it. In his opinion, the Kursk region and any other border territory of Russia illustrate the "deliberately vile" style of waging war typical of Russian aggression.
In an interview, Podolyak noted that Russia uses its border areas to host artillery, rocket launchers, small air bases and ballistic missile launchers. This allows it to carry out large-scale strikes on the civilian population of other countries, while being under the illusion that its own territories will remain intact.
"This is a war without the rules of war," Podolyak noted, stressing that Russia considers its territories inviolable, disregarding the laws of war. She hopes that no one will be able to harm her logistics and infrastructure system on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Podolyak believes that Ukraine needs to use two main ways to change this approach. The first is the destruction of Russia's military infrastructure on its territory through ground operations. He believes that Ukraine has the opportunity and the need to carry out such operations in order to protect its border regions.
The second way is the task of long-range strikes deep in Russia. Podoliak emphasizes the need for large-scale and regular strikes, which require significant stockpiles of missiles and the abandonment of "informal bans" on the use of these missiles on the territory of the Russian Federation.
