Russia is preparing to deploy five thousand North Korean servicemen in the Kursk region, reports The New York Times with reference to a Ukrainian official. This step involves the deepening of cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang and is another indication of the unstable situation in the regions.
According to the official, the military is part of an elite unit of the Korean People's Army. They are delivered from Vladivostok aboard Il-76 transport planes to a military airfield in the European part of Russia, and then sent to a combat zone.
The official also said that there were mixed signals about whether additional North Korean troops would be sent to participate in hostilities on Ukrainian territory. Currently, they are concentrated only in the Kursk region.
Meanwhile, the first secretary of the North Korean mission to the UN, Il Ha Kim, denied the transfer of Korean troops to the Russian Federation.
According to him, these accusations against Pyongyang are "dirty maneuvers by the US and its allies to cover up their own crimes and prolong the conflict in Ukraine."
