Russian military forces used a one and a half ton thermobaric aerial bomb (ODAB-1500) against Ukraine for the first time, Julian Röpke, a military expert of the German publication "Bild", reported. The incident occurred during shelling of the village of Velyka Pisarivka in the Sumy region, not far from the Graivoron district in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the bomb explosion, a "mushroom" several kilometers high was formed in the sky. No other damage was reported, but Röpke sees the incident as a new level of Russian violence against civilians.
Previously, the aggressors used similar bombs, but their mass did not exceed five centners. This new bomb, before detonating, creates highly flammable aerosols that cause fires in the air.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, has previously publicly emphasized that Russia is destroying Ukraine with the help of missiles and aerial bombs, and that the country does not have adequate means of air defense for adequate protection. Currently, the country's main hope is for support from the West.
