Russian troops are preparing to change the tactics of offensive operations in Ukraine — analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) announced preparations for the systematic use of motorcycles in combat in the summer and fall of 2025.
As noted in ISW, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing soldiers training at a training ground. The soldiers practiced offensive and defensive maneuvers using motorcycles in groups of two or three. Analysts believe that Moscow is preparing to massively rearm units at the front with motorcycles.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm this information. The press secretary of the Kharkiv Group of Forces, Pavlo Shamshin, reported that intelligence has recorded training of Russian soldiers in combat tactics on motorcycles. According to him, this allows to increase maneuverability and speed of movement, which makes it difficult to strike from the air with drones. At the same time, the loud noise of the engine makes motorcyclists less able to react in time to the approach of UAVs.
ISW analysts note that the use of motorcycles and civilian vehicles to transport infantry is becoming a new trend on the front. This indicates attempts by the Russian command to compensate for the huge losses of armored vehicles that the Russians suffered in the summer and fall of 2024.
It is expected that such changes in tactics are aimed at reducing vulnerability to Ukrainian drone strikes.
Earlier, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on the activation of the enemy in border areas, in particular in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. The command of the Khortytsia OTU also noted that Russian troops plan to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions by May 9.
