Against the background of exacerbation of Donald Trump's rhetoric on the war in Ukraine, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the achievement of diplomatic settlement remains the main priority of the president.
According to Temma Bruce State Department spokeswoman, Rubio voiced the position of the US administration during a conversation with foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom. In addition to the Middle East and the topic of Iran's restraint, the interlocutors discussed the war in Ukraine.
" The priority of President Trump remains to end the war by achieving a strong settlement through negotiations ," Bruce said.
This position sounded after the rigid statement of Trump himself, made the day before. The US President has set an ultimatum: if Ukraine and Russia do not reach a "fair" agreement, Washington will impose secondary sanctions.
Despite diplomatic rhetoric, the United States does not abandon Ukraine's military support. 17 Patriot air defense batteries, as well as missiles to fighter jets and artillery ammunition, are expected to supply - and through financing by European allies.
At the same time, as sources say, Trump is still convinced that the strategic advantage in the war on the side of Russia, and the military support of Ukraine is just a tool for pressure on Moscow in order to force it to negotiate.
