On the night of May 7, the Russian army launched a massive attack on Kyiv with Shahed attack drones. The capital experienced two waves of airstrikes, which resulted in large-scale fires in residential buildings, injuries to residents, and deaths.
The first explosions occurred at around 1:00 a.m. The Kyiv City Military Administration immediately warned of the possible use of ballistic weapons and urged residents to take shelter. In the Solomyanskyi district, a fire broke out in a warehouse with an area of 300 sq. m.
At 1:38 a.m. the alert was canceled, but only for a few hours. At around 4 a.m. Kyiv was attacked again — this time, drone debris hit residential buildings in several areas of the city.
In the Dnipro district, debris destroyed the upper floors of a multi-story building, in Svyatoshynskyi — apartments on several floors caught fire. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris hit a five-story building, where the bodies of two deceased were discovered during firefighting.
Vitaliy Klitschko reported that at least six people were injured in the shelling, four of them children. Three had to be hospitalized, and three more were treated on the spot.
Rescuers extinguished fires in Svyatoshynskyi, Solomyanskyi, Dniprovskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. The most destruction was recorded in the residential sector. According to the State Emergency Service, five residents were rescued from just one house in Svyatoshynskyi district, three of them children with burns.
Despite the work of air defense, the consequences of the attack once again proved that Kyiv remains under the gun. And although the equipment and services operate in a coordinated manner, strikes on peaceful neighborhoods have tragic results.
At 6:22 a.m., the air raid siren sounded again in the capital. The threat of a new attack remains, and Kyivans go to sleep every night with the thought that they might be woken up by explosions.
