Russia has struck Ukraine with a medium-range ballistic missile launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
As noted in the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian SSR, on the night of January 9, the enemy carried out one of the most massive combined attacks in recent times. In total, radio-technical troops detected and tracked 278 air attack vehicles, including 36 missiles of various types and 242 drones.
Air defense forces managed to destroy 244 air targets. The main direction of the strike was the Kyiv region. Critical infrastructure facilities were under attack. At the same time, hits were recorded at 19 locations, which indicates a significant intensity of the shelling.
The Air Force confirmed the use of one medium-range ballistic missile. The launch was carried out at 23:47. The air target was moving along a ballistic trajectory at a speed of about 13 thousand kilometers per hour.
It is known that the Oreshnik missile complex is based at the Kapustin Yar training ground. At the same time, the West Air Command noted that the exact type of missile will be established after a detailed study of all its elements.
The Ukrainian military emphasizes that despite the extremely difficult conditions and the massiveness of the attack, the air defense system demonstrated high efficiency, preventing significantly greater destruction and casualties among the civilian population.
