Russian troops have begun using new tactics in the war against Ukraine — Shahed attack drones PTM -3 anti-tank mine cassettes. This was reported by electronic warfare specialist Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov.
According to him, on August 4, drones carrying two such cassettes under their wings were spotted in several regions of Ukraine. PTM-3 mines are equipped with magnetic detonators that react to the approach of equipment.
" The enemy's intention is still unclear. These could be terrorist attacks on public roads or attempts to attack agricultural machinery. I ask everyone to be careful and not to drive up to suspicious objects if they are detected ," the expert emphasized.
Characteristics and dangers of PTM-3
The PTM-3 mine weighs about 4.9 kg and has a shaped charge capable of penetrating up to 60 mm of armor in the lower or side projection. Its magnetic detonator makes it dangerous not only for military but also for civilian equipment.
According to Beskrestnov, the Russians have begun installing PTM-3s not only on Shaheds, but also on Lancet loitering munitions. This modification likely increases the effectiveness of hitting armored targets, as instead of detonating a conventional explosive, a standard anti-tank munition is used.
Experts warn that this innovation creates additional risks for the military and civilians, and also complicates the work of sappers, as mines can be dropped in hard-to-reach places or on traffic routes.
