The Russian military has used a one and a half ton thermobaric aviation bomb (ODAB-1500) against Ukraine for the first time, reported Julian Röpke, a military expert for the German publication “Bild”. The incident occurred during the shelling of the village of Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region, not far from the Graivoron district in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The explosion of the bomb created a “mushroom” several kilometers high in the sky. Other damage was not reported, but Röpke considers this incident a new level of Russian violence against civilians.
Previously, the aggressors used similar bombs, but their mass did not exceed five centners. This new bomb, before exploding, creates highly flammable aerosols that cause fires in the air.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously publicly stated that Russia is destroying Ukraine with missiles and aerial bombs, and the country does not have the proper air defenses to adequately protect itself. The country's main hope for now is support from the West.
