Russia may launch a new large-scale offensive operation as early as June 2025. This was stated by military analyst Nico Lange in a comment to the German publication BILD . According to him, the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions are under immediate threat.
"This offensive has been planned for a long time. Its beginning is already visible - despite attempts at a settlement through negotiations with US President Donald Trump," the expert notes. In his opinion, the Kremlin's goal remains not to seek a truce, but to create new levers of pressure during potential negotiations.
"Russia wants to advance into new areas to complicate future agreements. This is part of the political game - to occupy new territories that will become the subject of blackmail in negotiations," Lange explained.
He also warned that Russian forces have significantly improved their skills in “drone warfare.” Moscow is actively copying Ukrainian tactics and is already using them to noticeable effect. The Russian Federation has thousands of new UAVs in its arsenal, as well as powerful electronic warfare equipment, which the Russians use to strike at the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ logistics.
"These drone attacks cause significant losses to the Ukrainian rear every day - warehouses, transport, and logistics are being put out of action," the analyst states.
Against the backdrop of announced changes in the US political leadership and a pause in support from Western allies, the Russian Federation may try to use this moment to create new footholds and increase pressure on Ukraine in the northern and eastern directions.
