Russia will be able to succeed in Ukraine next year if the situation for the Armed Forces continues to remain as "bleak" - The Washington Post

American columnist Ishaan Tharoor, in his analysis for The Washington Post, warns that Russia could make significant gains in Ukraine next year if the combat conditions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces remain as difficult as they are today. According to Tharoor, Ukrainian forces are currently facing a number of challenges, including resource shortages, high levels of attrition, and ongoing difficulties due to continuous Russian attacks.

“By next year, the grim reality of the conflict could lead to a scenario in which Russia largely gets its way. Kyiv’s forces are desperately trying to hold the line in the east of the country, but are losing ground in some areas. Visions of absolute victory are fading. Western support is also weakening,” he explains.

According to Tharoor, “the prospect of Ukraine agreeing to a compromise with Russia – a concession of territory in exchange for some Western security guarantees – is becoming increasingly realistic.”.

“This would lead to an unhappy peace that would plague European politics for years. Trump seems to favor such an agreement. His advisers openly talk about the need to prioritize US strategic assets against China,” the columnist writes.
