Russian strike burns people alive in Zaporizhia

On December 6, 2024, Russian troops struck another devastating blow to Zaporizhia, which led to terrible consequences for the city's civilians. At 6:00 p.m., when there were many cars on the highways, the Russian army used guided aerial bombs (GABs), as a result of which a significant part of the dead burned alive in their cars.

As reported by a correspondent from Zaporizhzhia, the strike on the highway occurred during rush hour, when there were many people on the roads. Cars stopped at a traffic light, and at that moment the Russian pilots struck. According to eyewitnesses, this happened against the background of a large number of cars and people near shopping centers, which only increased the scale of the tragedy.

“I was outside, and suddenly I saw a flash, and then I heard a loud explosion. I was about a kilometer from the arrival point. There is a video that shows what happened — a real apocalypse,” the journalist said.

The aftermath of the attack was made even more horrific when local residents tried to rescue the victims, pulling people out of burning cars before rescuers arrived. Of the 10 dead, 8 people were burned alive in their cars. Another 24 people were injured, including three children.

“These fascist scum, the pilots of “Putin’s Luftwaffe,” burned innocent people right on the road with their bomb. It was a real hell,” the journalist commented on the situation.

The explosions, which were aimed not only at destroying infrastructure but also at terrorizing civilians, became another tragic page in the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.

Andriy Yermak’s speech at a roundtable at Chatham House in London on December 6 attracted attention not only because of the topic discussed by the participants, but also because of one interesting detail — Yermak was sitting at the table next to Valery Zaluzhny, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom. This could not but attract additional attention, given the rumors that are increasingly spreading around the possibility of holding presidential elections in Ukraine in the near future. The situation in the country, in particular the possible end of the war, has long been the subject of political speculation. The two main scenarios of events currently being considered at Bankova Street involve either the end of the war after Trump’s inauguration or the continuation of the conflict in “longevity.” However, despite reflections on a possible peaceful settlement, the Ukrainian authorities seem more inclined to continue the fight — and, at the same time, to prepare for the upcoming elections. Interestingly, among the potential presidential candidates, Valery Zaluzhny currently has the highest rating. According to the latest polls, he is winning both the first and second rounds of the election, which puts him in direct competition with the incumbent President Volodymyr Zelensky. It is no secret that certain political circles, including Zelensky's opponents, are already betting on Zaluzhny. One of these is Petro Poroshenko, as well as other influential figures. On the other hand, the Office of the President is actively working to prevent Zaluzhny from becoming a real competitor. In particular, Bankova is trying to convince him not to run in the elections, or, in extreme cases, to run only under the brand of Zelensky's party. Zaluzhny, in turn, remains highly popular among Ukrainians, and his appearance next to Yermak at an event in London looks symbolic against the backdrop of these political maneuvers. This photo may indicate that the issue of Zaluzhny’s political neutralization has not yet been resolved and remains on the agenda. Regardless of whether Zaluzhny will run for president, his role in Ukraine’s political process is growing, and it is already difficult to say what the consequences of these internal political battles will be. But one thing is certain: the fight for the presidency is likely to become even more intense in the coming months.
