At night, the Lviv region was attacked by Russian "Shakheds", reports the head of the Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytsky. According to him, air defense forces were able to shoot down all five drones, but the fragments of the "Shakheds" caused destruction in Lviv and its surroundings, where at least two people were injured. Damage was recorded in the Malekhiv urban community and in the city center.
According to the “West” air command, during the first night alert, which lasted from 02:32 to 03:35, four Russian drones flew into the territory of the Lviv region. About an hour later, another “Shahed” tried to attack.
The remains of the downed drones fell on the village of Malekhiv in the Lviv community, local authorities were the first to report this. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi published photos of the partially destroyed building of one of the city's research institutes in his Telegram.
According to Maksym Kozytsky, the administrative building of the State Research Control Institute for Veterinary Drugs and Feed Additives was damaged. “The debris from the unmanned aerial vehicles caused damage to the roof, walls, and ceiling of the second floor, approximately 800 square meters in area,” he said in his message.
Andriy Sadovyi also shared photos of the destruction in one of the residential areas of Malekhiv, where a multi-story residential building was damaged with broken windows in five buildings.
The head of the Lviv OVA added that a 70-year-old man was hospitalized in Malekhiv with moderate injuries, including acubarotrauma, shrapnel wounds, and several fractures. Another victim, a 47-year-old man, received stab wounds and received treatment at the scene.
Andriy Sadovyi also noted that the 70-year-old man is a security guard at one of the office buildings.
In total, the Ukrainian Air Force reported shooting down 19 out of 21 Shahed drones launched by Russia at night.
In June, Russia carried out several massive strikes on Ukraine in rear areas, targeting energy infrastructure and military airfields, including Starokostyantyniv. There have been no strikes on Lviv itself, on the border with Poland, for several months.
