On the night of September 3, Russian troops carried out massive shelling of railway infrastructure in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions, but Ukrzaliznytsia managed to maintain continuous train traffic. Despite targeted attacks on infrastructure and rolling stock, not a single passenger flight was canceled, which highlights the resilience of Ukrainian railway workers even in the face of military operations.
As reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, the enemy attacked important railway facilities in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions, trying to disrupt the operation of critical infrastructure. Both infrastructure and rolling stock were hit, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
At the same time, the railway workers of Pokrovsk, a city under constant shelling, continue to fulfill their duties, organizing the evacuation of the population. However, this time the enemy also struck the personal homes of Ukrzaliznytsia employees. In Pokrovsk, the house of the locomotive depot driver, where his wife, an employee of the primary trade union, also lived, came under enemy shelling. As a result of the shelling, they were injured and were urgently taken to the hospital.
Despite the difficult circumstances, not a single passenger flight was canceled. This testifies to the high level of organization and dedication of Ukrzaliznytsia employees, who continue to ensure the movement of trains even in the most difficult conditions. “We continue to move,” the press service noted, emphasizing that the Ukrainian railway remains a vital element of the country's infrastructure, even in wartime.
The attack on the railway infrastructure was part of a larger missile attack carried out by the enemy on the night of September 3. Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv were also hit, where numerous explosions were recorded.
