The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) announced the downing of a Russian Su-57 fighter jet at the Akhtubinsk airfield in the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation.
The incident occurred on June 8, 2024 and is confirmed by satellite images showing traces of explosions and fire on the aircraft parking lot.
"The pictures show that on June 7, the Su-57 was intact, and on the 8th, craters from the explosion and characteristic spots of fire that arose as a result of fire damage appeared near it," the report says.
The image shows a trail, presumably from an arrival near the plane. The extent of damage to the plane itself is not visible in the satellite images.
The Su-57 is the most modern fighter in the Russian Federation's arsenal.
As a reminder, yesterday the Russian Defense Ministry announced the shooting down of drones over the Astrakhan region. Russian sources did not confirm the downing of the aircraft.
