The Russian occupiers have once again committed a war crime, brutally killing a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Five Ukrainian defenders were shot. This tragedy once again confirms the enemy's disregard for any moral principles and obligations under international humanitarian norms.
“The 110th OMBR named after Brigadier General Mark Bezruchko distributed a video with another crime committed by the Russians – the shooting of soldiers who surrendered,” he said.
According to Lubinets, the video shows Russian soldiers shooting five captured Ukrainian defenders.
“I will report this fact to the UN and the ICRC. Russian war criminals who are shooting Ukrainian prisoners of war must appear before an international tribunal and face the harshest punishment provided for by law!” the ombudsman urged.
Executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war
Recently, Russian troops have been regularly shooting Ukrainian soldiers who surrender to the occupiers.
In mid-December, Lubinets said that in 2024, the Russians executed almost twice as many prisoners of war as in the previous two years. Ukraine is aware of more than 170 such cases.
We should add that such executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war are most often ordered by the Russian Ministry of Defense, and there is already evidence of this. For example, soldiers of the “Forpost” brigade captured a Russian occupier during the battle. He said that Russian soldiers were ordered to kill Ukrainian prisoners of war.
