On October 1, 2024, Russian occupiers inflicted a terrible blow on the city center of Kherson, shelling the local market. The attack claimed the lives of several civilians and left many injured. This was reported by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
Tragedy among civilians
According to preliminary information, the shelling took place at around 9:00 a.m., when Kherson residents were shopping at the market. According to Prokudin, the strike damaged retail outlets and a public transport stop where people were.
“The stores where Kherson residents bought or sold products in the morning were under attack,” Prokudin said.
Victims and injured
According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, seven civilians were killed — three women and four men. Three people were injured and are currently receiving medical care. The National Police reported six deaths.
It is preliminary known that at least eight people were injured. According to Prokudin, five people died on the spot, three in the hospital under the supervision of doctors.
Prokudin released a video from the scene of the tragedy, which captured the terrible aftermath of the attack: dead bodies, injured people, scattered goods and destroyed buildings. The city is once again experiencing the tragic consequences of a war that continues without end.
