The Russian army continues to choose energy infrastructure as one of the key targets of its strikes, and the aggressor's strategic goal remains the complete de-energizing of Ukraine. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo Vitaliy Zaichenko on the air of the Unified Telethon.
According to him, Russia's intention is obvious: to deprive Ukrainians of light, water, heat, and all the basic benefits of civilization. He emphasized that electricity is the foundation for the functioning of other elements of life support.
" When there is no electricity, all the other benefits of civilization disappear ," said Zaichenko, commenting on the host's question about the worst possible scenario.
Despite the continuous attacks, the energy sector, according to the head of Ukrenergo, is ready for the challenges. Engineering protection is already in place at the facilities, air defense is working, and personnel are taking preventive actions to maintain the stability of the energy system even during threats.
" After each attack, we first stabilize the system, and then power consumers, which, unfortunately, are forcibly disconnected due to enemy strikes ," the specialist noted.
Thanks to the intensive work of repair crews and the prompt repair of damage, the electricity supply schedules this week have become less rigid. Zaichenko clarified that the power supply teams are working virtually continuously - immediately after the air alarm is over.
" Every day we can power more consumers ," added the head of Ukrenergo.
A major role in the recovery was played by the assistance of European partners, who provided Ukraine with the necessary equipment to quickly eliminate the consequences of the attacks. According to Zaichenko, if the Russian shelling stops, the schedules can be gradually canceled.
" If there are no strikes, the energy sector will cope with its task quite quickly. But the conditions, unfortunately, are not ideal - we are working with what we have, " he stressed.
However, the situation in some regions remains difficult. The most difficult is in frontline and border regions.
" These are Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Donetsk region - the regions that suffer the most from Russian attacks. The security situation there is the worst, which complicates the work of repair teams ," Zaichenko summed up.
