The Time magazine published the "Top 10 Global Risks for 2024", noting the probable partition of Ukraine in third place. In the "Divided Ukraine" section, the publication recognized Russia's historic defeat in terms of invasion and noted the strengthening of NATO with the participation of new members - Finland and Sweden.
It is noted that Ukraine has started the process of joining the EU, 11 rounds of sanctions against Russia have been introduced and half of its sovereign assets have been frozen, allocating these funds to the reconstruction of Ukraine. It was also noted that Europe stopped buying Russian energy carriers.
According to the publication, in 2024 Ukraine may actually split, and Russia has gained the initiative and material advantage. The authors consider this year to be a turning point in the war, emphasizing the need to solve personnel problems, increase weapons production, and develop a realistic military strategy.
The magazine points out that Kyiv has suffered from reduced support from the United States, and European aid is limited. It is noted that Ukraine needs additional troops.
Noting the risks, The Time believes that Kyiv will take more military risks this year, including strikes against Russia, which could trigger an unexpected response and involve NATO countries.
Other global risks for 2024 include:
