The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office initiated a procedure for special confiscation of the assets of Oleg Yashchuk, the former head of one of the divisions of the Bureau of Economic Security. The grounds for the appeal to the court were materials from the National Agency for Corruption Prevention, which revealed signs of unfounded property.
These are two premium cars — a 2023 BMW X3 and a 2023 Toyota Camry. According to the materials, the vehicles were registered to third parties.
The BMW X3 with the license plate KA5800PC was registered to Bohdana Zubets, a teacher and sister of Yashchuk's wife. According to the investigation, to complicate the identification of the car, other license plates were used - W07070A, which are officially registered to another vehicle.
The Toyota Camry with the license plate AA9837PA is registered to Anatoly Slepenchuk, whom law enforcement officials believe is a close acquaintance of Yashchuk. According to the prosecution, he failed to confirm the legal origin of about $30,000 that could have been used to purchase the car.
The SAPO filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court to declare these assets unfounded and apply special confiscation. The total value of the two cars is estimated at almost 4 million hryvnias.
In addition to vehicles, the inspection materials include information about real estate related to Yashchuk, including properties in Dubai and Vienna. At the same time, the lawsuit to the VAKS currently concerns only cars.
According to information from law enforcement agencies, an investigation is ongoing regarding the former BEB official. Details of the proceedings have not yet been officially disclosed.
Thus, the case of Oleg Yashchuk may become another test for the civil asset forfeiture mechanism, which is used in cases where the value of property does not correspond to the declared income of an official or persons related to him.
