SBU and SBI detained Lviv prosecutor while accepting a bribe

A district prosecutor has been detained in Lviv on suspicion of extorting a bribe of $5,000. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the official promised to help a local resident avoid criminal liability for suspected fraud of about UAH 400,000.

Law enforcement officers detained the prosecutor "red-handed" while transferring an illegal benefit. He has already been charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion and receiving a bribe by an official.

The case is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine. The court is expected to impose a preventive measure on the suspect in the near future.

Under the incriminated article, the official faces five to ten years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in state bodies.
