In the Lviv region, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a major of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who turned out to be an agent of the Russian FSB. The serviceman was collecting intelligence information about Ukrainian aviation infrastructure for transfer to the enemy. This was officially reported by the SBU.
According to the investigation, the traitor was recruited through his ex-wife, also a former soldier, who remained in Melitopol after the occupation and began to cooperate with the Russians. The spying activity itself was coordinated by an officer of the elite FSB unit "Alpha" - a personnel officer, Alexander Belodyedov.
The spy's main goal was to collect coordinates of Ukrainian airfields, logistics centers, hangars, and combat aircraft maintenance bases. The occupiers planned to use this data for missile and drone strikes on the critical infrastructure of the Air Force.
However, the plans of Russian intelligence were thwarted: the military counterintelligence of the SBU, together with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, promptly discovered and documented criminal activity, recorded contacts with FSB agents, and detained the traitor.
The SBU also took additional measures to secure all facilities to which the enemy could try to gain access.
The major has now been charged with treason committed by prior conspiracy under martial law (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He has been arrested. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Separately, his ex-wife, who is currently in the occupied territory, was charged in absentia with treason.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office.
