A former official of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and two former heads of a defense enterprise have been charged with supplying the army with unsuitable weapons, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced.
These are anti-tank missile systems that were supposed to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but turned out to be unusable. As a result of the suspects' actions, the state suffered losses of over 90 million hryvnias.
The investigation is being conducted by the Main Investigation Department of the SBU under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office. Operational support is provided by the Military Counterintelligence Department.
The investigation established that the defendants in the case participated in a scheme to supply defective products. The installations were transferred to the Ministry of Defense, despite the fact that they did not meet the technical specifications and could not be used for their intended purpose.
The suspects are suspected of several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
-
Part 2 of Article 114-1 — transmission or collection for the purpose of transmitting information under martial law,
-
Part 5 of Article 191 — misappropriation or embezzlement of property in particularly large amounts,
-
Part 2 of Article 366 — official forgery, which caused serious consequences.
The investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are checking who else may have been involved in this scheme.
