The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, detained a Russian agent in Zaporizhia who attacked an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was undergoing rehabilitation after a combat wound. The SBU reported this on Wednesday, January 21.
According to the investigation, the Russian special services planned the assassination attempt using a fake acquaintance scheme. The defender was lured to the city's industrial zone under the pretext of a date with a girl he allegedly met on a dating website. Instead of the woman, a killer in a balaclava appeared at the scene, attacked the soldier from behind and stabbed him at least six times in the neck, chest, stomach and leg. After the attack, the attacker fled.
The victim was taken to intensive care with severe stab wounds. He is currently in serious condition.
Within a few hours, SBU officers located the attacker and detained him at his relatives' house, where he was trying to hide. The perpetrator of the attack turned out to be a 25-year-old unemployed resident of Zaporizhzhia, who came to the attention of the FSB while looking for work in Telegram channels. Previously, he was assigned to perform "test tasks" - setting fires in the city, and then - eliminating an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the investigation, a knife, smartphone, and tablet were seized, through which the attacker maintained contact with the Russian curator.
The detainee was informed of suspicion under articles of attempted premeditated murder. The court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of detention. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
