Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a 43-year-old employee of Mykolaiv Oblast Teploenergo, who was transmitting coordinates for the preparation of Russian missile and drone strikes. The man, who became an FSB agent, collected intelligence on the locations of military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces.
The attacker attracted the attention of the Russian special services with his pro-Russian posts and comments on social networks. This was the reason for his recruitment. After receiving instructions from the FSB, he began gathering information about Ukrainian military positions.
To perform the tasks, the agent used his own car, driving around the city and its surroundings. He covertly photographed strategic objects and tried to solicit information from his colleagues and acquaintances, passing it off as ordinary conversations.
SBU cyber specialists promptly identified the informant, documented his criminal activities and detained him at home. During the searches, a mobile phone with an installed Telegram channel was seized from him, through which he transmitted the collected data directly to Russian curators.
Thanks to the timely actions of the SBU, it was possible to ensure the safety of objects that could become targets of enemy attacks.
The perpetrator was declared a suspect under Art. 3 Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is currently in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison for such actions.
This case is yet another proof of how the Russian special services are trying to use local residents for subversive activities. The SBU emphasizes the need to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious persons.
