The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained the agent of the Russian Main Intelligence Administration (GRU), who was spying on military airfields in the west of Ukraine and preparing terrorist attacks near the territorial centers of acquisition (TCC). The operation was performed in Khmelnytskyi, where a local resident, a 30-year-old unemployed, performed the tasks of Russian special services.
According to the SBU, the man was recruited through anonymous telegram channels, where he sought "easy earnings". During recruitment, he was tasked with monitoring military facilities, in particular the aviation equipment and airfields of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. He used a bicycle, making a hidden video survey around military facilities. The attacker also equipped his house with a special camera to fix the runway of the airfield.
Further, the agent had to organize a terrorist attack near the Tax Code, for which he was given instructions for the manufacture of a homemade explosive device (SVP). The Russian intelligence service planned to use a mobile phone to activate the explosive device with the help of a specialized program. However, the detainee searches, mobile phones, tracking gadgets and devices that were to be used to make SVPs were removed.
The detainee is accused of two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: treason (Article 111) and illegal dissemination of information on the movement of the Armed Forces (Article 114-2). It is in custody without the possibility of bail. In case of guilt, he is threatened with life imprisonment with the confiscation of property.
