The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained Vitaly Chernenko, an employee of the security department of the Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to several sources, Chernenko was detained while receiving part of a bribe from a financial company.
According to the SBU, Chernenko, a former employee
of the Bureau of Economic Security, was detained while receiving part of a bribe from a financial company for influencing BEB detectives who are investigating criminal proceedings against this firm.
Later, the Defense Procurement Agency confirmed the fact of Chernenko's detention, but claimed that he no longer works for them.
At the same time, as Zakon i Business writes with reference to a source in the Prosecutor General's Office, a number of high-ranking employees of the Agency may be involved in the case. Thus, according to the publication, the director of the agency's security department, Oleksandr Bagatikov, led negotiations with representatives of the company that handed over the bribe to Chernenko, who promised to contribute to the solution of the BEB issue for $700,000.
At the same time, according to "Law and Business", Bagatikov is related to the recently appointed deputy head of the Defense Procurement Agency, Artem Sytnyk (former head of NABU).
