On August 9, 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a resident of the Russian GRU, who was coordinating subversive activities on the territory of Ukraine, in Kyiv. The woman, who was a senior agent of Russian intelligence, planned a series of arson attacks on official vehicles of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, which were supposed to destabilize the socio-political situation in the country.
According to the SBU report, to expose the suspect, the special service used its "double agent" - a resident of Kyiv, who, being part of the plan, cooperated with Ukrainian intelligence after being exposed in preparation for one of the arsons. This agent helped document the woman's subversive activities.
The detainee acted under the direct supervision of an employee of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU). She coordinated the arson groups, providing them with instructions for making improvised incendiary devices. Her task was to organize the burning of military vehicles, which was supposed to cause chaos and destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
At the time of the arrest, the woman was trying to film one of the planned arsons. SBU operatives seized a home-made incendiary device and a mobile phone with evidence of its subversive activity at the scene.
The figure came into the field of military intelligence of Russia at the beginning of the full-scale war, when she lived in Tokmok in Zaporizhzhia. After the capture of part of the region, she moved to Kyiv, where the Russian GRU resumed contact with her and offered cooperation, for which she promised to receive money, which she never received.
The Security Service of Ukraine declared the woman a suspect under part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). She is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
